Soul Control is hitting up the Democracy Center on Sunday with Mountain Man, Sweet Jesus, and Mean Man’s Dream. Doors are at 4:30 PM and the show starts around 5. It has to end by 9 because of the Sunday noise ordinance so make sure to get there on time! $5-7 donation. Here’s a Facebook event if you need more info.

Update 12/20/11

I am having trouble keeping up with this blog, so again, I apologize. Expect more updates in the next week.

So this happened last weekend, there should be videos up soon. All of the bands were awesome and had a lot of positive things to say. I was stoked on the GB and Negative Approach covers :)

The night before, we hosted Disciples of Christ, Backslider and Mauser. Another great night of supporting touring hardcore bands, and seeing friends from all over. Curmudgeon and Aspects of War opened the show, and lots of kids had their distros out (tapes, shirts, buttons, records…) which was awesome.

November!

Pygmy Lush and Ampere last weekend were amazing, as were all the openers. If you missed Cinders’ set, they are playing again this coming Saturday with Pyramids. Here are flyers for this weekend’s shows:

See you all there!

Papercut Benefit this Saturday!

As you may remember, the Papercut Zine Library started out small in the Democracy Center’s front room. The library has moved around a bit since then, and will soon re-open in Inman Square at Lorem Ipsum Books.

Our friends in Featherweight have decided to host their final show at the Democracy Center, with all proceeds going to Papercut.

We hope that you can make it out! There will also be a special surprise guest. :)

Show was wild last night! Thanks everyone for sending off Social Circkle on a good note. Waste Management’s set was awesome — everyone be sure to pick up the new 7″ if you didn’t get a chance last night. Crazy Spirit are always fun as hell to see. Sorry about the sauna…still working on that a/c thing. (J/K)

There are some incredible shows coming up, so be sure to check out the calendar for updates! Full lineups will be posted as they are confirmed. Definitely look out for Deathrats (8/27), Magrudergrind/Despise You (9/10), Cross-Stitched Eyes (9/11) and Banner Pilot (10/13).

Sorry for the lack of updates!

Shows are indeed happening this summer at the Democracy Center.
But FIRST: we are hosting the Boston screening of my friend KC’s film, From the Back of the Room.

“Many people have the impression that the Riot Grrrl movement in the mid-90s was the end-all, be-all of female involvement in DIY punk. This is definitely not the case! Plenty of amazing ladies prior to this era paved the way for it, and plenty of amazing ladies continue to help keep DIY together today. This documentary chronicles the past 30 years of female involvement in DIY punk, and has interviews with over 30 women from across the country, ages 17 to 40. Race, gender, sexuality, motherhood, class, and activism are all addressed in this film, giving a more complete picture of how these women participate in the DIY community, and how it affects their daily lives.”
